Delve into the history of Ancient Greece exploring important monuments on this historical tour of Kefalonia. You'll be fascinated by its storied past and impressive archaological ruins!
Kefalonia History Tour
After picking you up from Argostoli port at 9 am, we'll set off on our exciting historical tour of Kefalonia. Did you know that this island is home to ruins dating back to the Mycenaean civilisation, who inhabited the area between 1650 and 1200 BC?
First of all, we'll visit St George Castle, which overlooks the area from 300 metres above sea level. In this historic fortress we'll learn all about the siege of Kefalonia, which took place in 1500.
We'll then continue our historic tour visiting the small village of Tzanata, where we'll have the opportunity to admire the largest tholos tomb, or beehive-shaped funerary structure, in the Ionian Islands!
After delving into the Mycenaean culture, we will take you to Skala, where you'll have an hour and a half of free time to relax under the Greek sun. You can also take the opportunity to have a drink!
Having met back up again, we'll visit the Roman villa of Skala, home to an impressive mosaic depicting Phthonus, the personification of jealousy and envy. We'll make our last stop of the historical tour of Kefalonia at the Monastery of St Andrew.
Finally, we'll return to Argostoli and drop you off at the original starting point between 2 pm and 3 pm.
