Ordizia & San Sebastian Food Tour Itinerary
Having being picked up from your hotel in Bilbao, you'll leave the Basque capital behind and head inland to the province of Gipuzkoa. Heading through luscious green countryside, you'll reach your first stop, the town of Ordizia, known for its rich culinary traditions.
Here you'll visit Ordizia's weekly market, one of the oldest markets in Spain. Since 1512, it has been a haven of fresh produce grown, caught and made locally: apples, artichokes, lamb, bonito, sardines, cheeses, mushrooms... essential ingredients for the best typical specialities of Basque cooking!
We'll continue the excursion visiting a family cheese factory, and get to know this exquisite dairy product. In addition to learning about its production process, we'll sample 4 kinds of cheese accompanied by txakoli or cider.
From Idiazabal, you'll head to San Sebastian, where you'll sate your appetite further indulging in a sampling of five typical pintxos, small local snacks usually pinned to a piece of bread with a toothpick, or "pintxo". Explore the historic centre of this beautiful city and stop in at other traditional bars, where you'll also enjoy two drinks to wash down the different delicious "mini sandwiches" that you try.
After eating, you'll have free time to stroll around Paseo de la Concha and the other picturesque areas of San Sebastian at your own pace. Then, in the afternoon, you'll be taken to the Mount Igueldo viewpoint, from which you'll enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the city, before returning to Bilbao in the evening.
