On this tour, you will learn all about the production of the famous La Rioja wine. You will participate in all stages of the process, giving you an authentic local experience.
La Rioja Wine Tour
We will meet up in front of the Santa María Church in Fuenmayor at 10:30 am. From here we'll set off on a safari-style tour of the idyllic vineyards that surround this village in La Rioja. You'll follow the guide in your own vehicle, making different stops to discover the most magical places in the area.
The first stop on the tour will be at a vineyard to learn everything about the grape that is grown here. You will become a genuine winemaker for the day! Growing grapes is a complex job that requires a lot of dedication. We will check it out by doing the relevant tasks for the season we are in, such as harvesting, pruning, de-sprouting, leaf removal, destemming or ripening samples.
After this immersive experience, we return to our cars and then drive to a family-run winery. We will learn about the variety kept here and the steps involved in the fermentation and elaboration of the wine.
Finally, we will visit a 16th century underground stone wine cellar, where we will taste two types of wine straight from the huge wooden casks. The guide will explain how the wine is left to mature for many years in these containers until they reach their perfect taste.
Finally, with a personalized bottle of wine in your possession, we will head back to Fuenmayor, arriving at around 1:30 pm.
