Food Tour of Antigua Guatemala
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Guatemala City at the agreed time and head to Antigua, which served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Guatemala. After a journey lasting an hour, we'll start our tour by exploring the famous Central Park. This large area hosts several historic buildings dating back to the Spanish period, such as the Cathedral, the city council and the Palacio de Los Capitanes Generales (Governor's Palace).
As the guide accompanies us through the colourful streets of Antigua, we'll find out about Guatemala's culinary secrets. A few of the essential elements that make up a traditional dish include corn, chilli and beans, we'll see these up close when we visit Antigua's local market.
Here we'll talk to local traders and learn to make traditional corn tortillas. Don't miss this interesting experience! We'll then head to the nearby Capuchinas convent, where many of the Indigenous Guatemalan recipes were created, and sample dishes prepared with vegetables, meat and spices.
The tour will continue on to a local restaurant where we'll try some Guatemalan desserts made with local ingredients. You'll leave wanting more! To finish off the tour we'll visit a local candy store.
We'll then take you back to your hotels in Guatemala City.
