Hangzhou Culture Tour

The tour will start at 8:30 am, when our driver-guide picks you up from your accommodation. Following the legend of the White Snake Beauty, one of the best-known stories in Chinese literature, we'll head towards the Leifeng Pagoda, located on Sunset Hill south of the West Lake. We'll spend an hour and a half learning about the stories that stem from this eight-sided, five-storey tower built in 975 AD.

After this first stop, we'll head to China's National Silk Museum, where we'll spend an hour learning about how the manufacturing of silk fabrics has evolved over the last 5,000 years. We'll also find out about the history of trading and cultural exchanges on China's famous Silk Road

At 12:30 pm we'll take a break to enjoy some typical Hangzhou food in one of the local restaurants (not included).

Then we'll continue our tour at the former residence of Hu Xueyuan, designated as a historical relic in 1999. This complex, which covers about 7,000 square kilometres, is a stunning example of the luxury buildings that were built at the end of the Qing Dynasty. We'll spend another hour learning a little more about Chinese architecture, and admiring the Zhiyuan Garden, home to China's largest man-made cave.

Our next stop will be Qinghefang Street, the city's most historic shopping street. We'll stroll among its century-old shops and buy some traditional snacks and artisanal crafts. This visit will be one hour long, so we'll still have time to go into the Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum if you want to delve into the world of traditional Chinese herbal medicine.

The tour will end at around 5 pm and we'll take you back to your accommodation.
