Explore some of the most charming corners of the Cretan coastline with this excursion to Spinalonga and Agios Nikolaos from Malia. As an added bonus, you can even take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the bay of Kolokitha!
Spinalonga & Agios Nikolaos Excursion
At 8 am on the morning of the tour, we will pick you up from your hotel in Malia, and hit the road to Elounda harbor. There, we'll climb aboard a boat and set sail to the island of Spinalonga, an abandoned gem where we'll discover what happened during Venetian and Ottoman rule as well as its many battles.
During the tour, we'll see the great fortress and imposing walls that defended this islet belonging to the Aegean archipelago. Fun fact: aside from having been a fortress to defend the island from enemy attacks, it was also used as a leper colony at the beginning of the 20th century.
After learning about Cretan history, we'll head for the bay of Kolokitha, where we'll drop anchor so you can take a refreshing dip and, if you wish, enjoy a delicious barbecue on board the boat.
Then, we'll sail to Agios Nikolaos, a fishing town that is home to the fabled Lake Voulismeni, a lake closely associated with the legends of Athena and Artemis.
At the end of the excursion, we'll sail back to Malia, where arrival at your hotel is scheduled for around 7 pm.
This tour includes pickup from hotels in Malia, Stalis, Hersonissos, Analipsi, Anissaras, Gouves, Gournes, Kokkini Chani, Kateros, Heraklion and Ammoudara – Heraklion.
