Montevideo's fascinating Prado district is full of wonderful surprises. Discover them for yourself when you take our fantastic free walking tour.
Prado Free Walking Tour
Our free walking tour through Montevideo's iconic Prado district begins on Avenida Delmira Agustini, next to the Stagecoach Monument (Monumento a la Diligencia). There, you will hear all about the fascinating story behind this grand sculpture.
The journey through Prado continues at the Barrio Las Quintas neighborhood. Standing out among the luxury housing is the magnificent Casa Quinta Aurelio Berro villa which resembles a medieval European castle. Another example of the beautiful Neo-Gothic style characteristic of this area is the Carmelitas Church, which is the next stop on our walk.
Then, we visit the Prado Rose Garden, a true paradise for lovers of plants and flowers. Inaugurated in 1912 the Garden is dedicated to the memory of the Uruguayan poet Juana de Ibarbourou. After exploring the wonderful floral displays, we will cross the bridge over Miguelete Creek and arrive at the Hotel del Prado. This stately building from 1912 has never actually served as a hotel but was historically a tea house and events venue for the city's aristocracy. In the gardens, you will discover the Cordier Fountain and its beautiful sculptures.
Our free tour walking tour of Prado concludes in front of the entrance of the Montevideo Botanical Garden.
