Discover Taiwan's craftsmanship and its local pottery production with this Sanxia and Yingge Tour. You'll also visit the historic Zushi temple and learn about its symbolism.
Sanxia & Yingge Tour
At the time indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Taipei and head to the district of Sanxia, forty minutes south of the capital. We'll pass through the narrow streets of this bustling city which bears over a century of history. Here we'll visit the historic Zushi temple, built to honour a warrior who was loyal to the Sung Dynasty.
As we walk into the temple we'll admire the bronze carved columns and learn more about the story of the two stone lions that flank the entrance to the temple. After the Second World War, Zushi was partially destroyed and remained in ruins for several years. After walking along Sanxia's oldest street we'll make our way to Yingge.
The small town of Yingge is famous for its handmade pottery. To find out more about this laborious trade, we'll visit a local pottery workshop and experience pottery throwing. Here you'll find replicas of vases from the Ming and Ching Chinese dynasties.
To finish the tour, we'll walk along Yingge's main shopping avenue, where you'll find street stalls and small shops selling clay dishes and small souvenir statues.
