Guided Tour of Mexico City
Discover the melting pot of cultures and indigenous influences in Mexico City on this tour of the major monuments and historic sites in the Mexican capital.
Guided Tour of Mexico City
The tour meets at 9:50 am at the National Anthropological Museum, located in the Chapultepec Forest, the largest park in the city. We'll visit the largest museum on the continent, to get to know the prehispanic origins of Mexico. We'll see the famous Sun Stone up close, popularly known as the Aztec calendar, and we'll reveal the secrets that it hides regarding the origin of the universe.
We'll take a look inside the history of Mexico City as we admire some of the monuments constructed in the Paseo de la Reforma: the world famous Angel of Independence, Diana the Hunter, and the Bicentennial Column.
The tour stops in front of the imposing Palace of Fine Arts, to admire the mixture of Art Nouveau and Art Deco and the secrets hidden inside its walls painted by famous Mexican painters, such as Diego Rivera.
Then the tour passes through the centre of Mexico City, discovering along the way the mixture of indigenous and Spanish culture in its streets and buildings. We'll make our way to the Metropolitan Cathedral, the largest in Latin America, and one of the best examples of colonial architecture on the continent. And we'll learn the history of Mexican political life as we get close to the National Palace, the seat of political power in for the last five hundred years.
The tour finishes around Constitution Square, better known as the Zócalo, in the heart of one of the oldest urban centres in America.
